Ultra-rare paint ball commemorating the 1974-75 season. This particular paint ball is signed by Coach Bob Knight, Don Noort, Steve Green, Jim Crews, Tom Abernethy, Mark Haymore, Doug Allen, Bob Donewald, and Steve Ahlfeld. Other signatures may have been on the ball, but have severely faded to make them illegible.

This is a fully signed team basketball featuring the signatures of Steve Alford, Todd Jadlow, Daryl Thomas, Magnus Pelkowski (redshirt), Todd Meier, Stew Robinson, Steve Eyl, Andre Harris, Rick Calloway, Courtney Witte, Kreigh Smith, Joe Hillman (redshirt), Winston Morgan, and Brian Sloan.

This ball called to me. I love the fact that it’s numbered 87 / 400. The ball dons 14 signatures of players, coaches, and student managers for the last undefeated team to win the national championship. The signatures include Coach Bob Knight, Bobby Wilkerson, Scott May, Tom Abernethy, Scott Eells, Wayne Radford, Quinn Buckner, Kent Benson, Jim Crews, Bob Weltlich (Assistant Coach), Chuck Swenson (graduate assistant), Tim Walker (graduate assistant), and Brad Winters (graduate assistant). Missing from the ball are Jim Roberson, Rich Valavicius, Mark Haymore, and Bob Bender. I’m not able to make out the signature next to Wayne Radford’s…I suspect another graduate assistant — but can’t seem to identify from sources I have.

Item: 2000-01 Indiana Hoosiers Team Signed Basketball
I didn’t have to go too far to find this ball — I about shat myself when I walked up to a yard sale in my own neighborhood and found this ball. In a prelude to a Final Four and title game appearance, this IU team went 21-13 and 10-6 in the Big Ten (3rd), and took an early exit to Kent State, falling 77-73 as a #4 seed in the NCAA tournament. The Hoosiers would avenge that loss with an unforgettable shooting performance in Rupp Arena.

Part of an annual tradition, I have a goal to complete a team signed basketball from attending games and other events. For this season, I had the inaugural Hoosier Fan Fest to thank for this. Minus Coach Woodson, this has the full team on it. I didn’t realize until the event was midway through that Logan Duncomb wasn’t present for the autograph session, so I had to connect with him to ink this at the very last moment at the end of the event. This has been my favorite ball to have autographed, with the Indiana script logo and alternating red/white leather. Item: Coach Series Autographed Micro Basketballs
My first coach signed basketball was at an event at the now destroyed Little Nashville Opry, where Coach Knight was speaking. My parents surprised me with tickets for my birthday and I loved every minute of his storytelling. Since then, I’ve had every coach sign a micro basketball (even smaller than a mini) — except Kelvin Sampson…and technically, Dan Dakich. Anyone got one of those? I finally met Coach Woodson at an IU Varsity Club event held at Huber’s Orchard & Winery to keep the series running. My plan is to build a custom rack and display these in their proper order.
