Knight Time Rewind: February 16, 1987
ON THIS DAY: On the heels of escaping with a two point road victory over cellar dweller Northwestern, Indiana visited the Wisconsin Badgers, yet another bottom rung Big Ten squad. This game would turn out to be more of the same — in fact, Indiana would play the first triple overtime in the program’s history. Indiana would escape another nailbiter, 86-85. On a less than stellar shooting night, Steve Alford would fittingly sink a three pointer at the 14:41 mark in the first half to break the IU career scoring record held by Don Schlundt. The bucket would give Alford 2,195 points in his career and he would go on to score 2,438 points, good for second place on the all-time Big Ten basketball scoring list behind Michigan’s Mike McGee. The memorabilia pictured here is the program and ticket stub from the game.
