600…and counting!
As I was working on my site a couple of weeks or so ago, I paused for a moment and found myself thinking…how many items have I uploaded? Sadly, I’m not sure why I hadn’t really given much thought about that up to that point — actually, it’s probably because I’m going about a mile a minute everyday between my work, my family, and everything else.
IU’s rich basketball tradition is full of milestones and firsts, so I thought I should take some time to do that moving forward. I started to cycle through the categories and count things up…and ended up with a number of 569, give or take. That’s a lot of things to count, so I may be ever-so-slightly off…but who’s going to take the time to go back and check me? :-) From there, I made a goal of getting to that next milestone in a couple of weeks…and voila! Here we are!
To pay homage for adding the 600th item to the site today, I’m going to take a moment to reflect back at The General’s 600th career coaching victory. The date was January 6, 1993. B-town. That incredible Hoosier squad came in ranked #5 in the country, facing off with Tom Davis’ Iowa Hawkeyes, who were ranked 8th. Indiana would win the game 75-67, led by Damon Bailey’s 21 points and five three pointers. At the time, Coach Knight became the youngest coach (52) and only the 15th in history to reach the milestone.
I don’t have the ticket stub from this game (yet), so I figured I’d use the next best thing — a signed photo of the star of that game to commemorate the milestone.
It’s fitting to note that Knight made himself unavailable to reporters after the game to “prepare for a hunting trip”. And with the 600th item up on The General’s Assembly…I’m off to hunting again, as well!
