Knight Time Rewind: February 7, 1980

ON THIS DAY: On this day in 1980, on the heels of a road loss to the Purdue Boilermakers, Indiana would defeat the Northwestern Wildcats 83-69 in Assembly Hall. The victory would mark the 300th of Coach Bob Knight’s illustrious career, becoming the youngest coach to achieve the feat. Butch Carter would lead IU with 22 points and 9 rebounds, with freshman Isiah Thomas chipping in 18.

The piece of memorabilia shown here is a program from the game, which prominently features Randy Wittman on the cover. Ironically, Wittman did not play in this game due to a stress fracture injury he suffered to his foot early in the season. Ultimately, he was granted a medical redshirt.

Until next time…go Hoosiers!
