2 16, 1987 IU Indiana University Hoosiers Basketball vs. Wisconsin Road Away Ticket Stub Steve Alford Breaks IU Career Scoring Record

ON THIS DAY: Triple OT!!! On this day in 2013, IU kicked Purdue’s ass 83-55, the second drubbing of the season. Will Sheehey would lead the Hoosiers in scoring with 22 points, setting an IU record for the most field goals in a game without a miss by going a perfect 9-9 from the field. This also marked the first time in the series the Hoosiers would defeat the Boilers by 20 or more points twice in a season.

Ironically, De-ron Davis would tie this record on the same day 7 years later against the Michigan Wolverines. Unfortunately, the Hoosiers would be blown out in Ann Arbor, 89-65. His 18 points would lead Indiana in scoring on the night.

And finally, the Badgers forced the #2 Hoosiers into triple-overtime before falling 86-85. Indiana's Steve Alford broke the school's all-time scoring record held by Don Schlundt. It was an otherwise uncharacteristically off night for Alford — and Dean Garrett would ultimately prove to be the hero, scoring the game-winning basket with just a few seconds left in the contest.

Two pieces of memorabilia to showcase tonight…the program is from the Purdue game in 2013 and features an autograph by Victor Oladipo. The ticket stub is from Alford’s record setting game.

Until next time…go Hoosiers!
